GEOMETRICAL
TRANSFORMATIONS AND SHADOWS
The shadows phenomenon, interpretable with
the model of the straight propagation of the light, is an
interesting way to introduce the geometrical
transformations . In fact it offers the opportunity to
make pupils explore real situations and connect mathematical
concepts to everyday life.
Simple concepts about the light are the prerequisites for these activities:

What a light source is .

Light is invisible, but it spreads in
every directions and it is diffused by the surfaces it
meets.

Light travels straight. There is a correspondence
between the physical body (light rays) and the geometrical
body (straight lines).
