Welcome to the

Quenelles Winter Tournament

When there are no wars to keep the Knights of Bretonnia occupied, they hone their skills by means of colourful contests of martial prowess. These contests are known as jousts, tournaments or, in their grandest and most spectacular form, tourneys! Tournaments are held in each of the great dukedoms of Bretonnia several times a year. These are magnificent events lasting for several days and attended by Knights from all over the realm. Smaller affairs are held at the castles of lesser nobles eager to show off their wealth and influence.

Needless to say Bretonnian tournaments are extremely popular, noisy and ribald affairs attended by hordes of commoners from the surrounding countryside as well as all nobles from miles around. The inns and taverns are filled to bursting point and the feasting, drinking and carousing goes on for many days.

The Parade

It is a beautiful winter day in Quenelles, the sunshine is reflected in the white snow and the the cold wind moves the branches of the bare trees. Large crowds have gathered in the field before De Rochefort  Castle to witness the great Tournament. Banners of all colors are fluttering in the light breeze and heralds are riding about announcing the events that will follow.

Suddenly the gates of De Rochefort Castle swing open and, as the great procession of mounted Knights and Squires appear, a score of trumpeters play a fanfare from atop the castle walls. The crowd starts cheering as the Knights draw near. First in the procession comes the Marquis himself riding his fierce warhorse. He rides up to where the Lords and Ladies are assembled and lowers his sword in salute. Behind him the Joust contenders from near and far do the same.
