WATER LENSES

back to the index

Children are guided to watch objects through round containers filled with water or through a drop of water and to explore the relationship between focal distance and magnifying strength. An empty fish bowl immerged in a container filled with water acts as a divergent lens.

CONVERGENT LENS
DIVERGENT LENS

The image of an object viewed through a convergent lens changes, depending on the position of the object referred to the focus of the lens: if the object is between the lens and its focus, it appears enlarged; if the object is beyond the focus, it appears reduced and upside-down.

The image of an object situated beyond the focus of a divergent lens appears smaller then the object.
