When a 3m pole was inserted into the round hole, one could observe better the use of the hole as a marker. Seen from the direction of the portal of Mnajdra, the sun comes up one solar diameter away from the pole. What might be seen as a lack of accuracy is actually the opposite. In the last 5,500 years due to precession, the position where the sun rises during the year (except at the equinoxes) has moved. But precession movement can be calculated, and when the present position of the sunrise is taken 5,500 years back, the sun would have risen exactly next to the pole!
