The passageway in the lowest level. The trilithon on the left is supporting one of the seven (uneven) steps and the Holy of Holies chamber lies exactly above the lighted roof in the top right corner. Red ochre still covers large parts of the walls of these rooms.
It has been theorised that these spaces with their rock partitions could have served for storage, possibly of grain. Behind the photographer is the room that leads to the four spaces that are the deepest part of the Hypogeum. |
