The limestone slab blocking the entrance to the middle transept of the middle temple of Tarxien. Its size is 1.28 m (5 feet) long and 61 cm (2 feet) high. A similar blocking slab was found at Hagar Qim. The 'oculi' design on these blocks seem to have been used on slabs that were used to block off parts of a temple. Was the design intended to act as eyes watching over any intruder who 'dares' to enter in the 'forbidden' areas. |
