The spiral decorated altars in the left apse upon entry into the first temple of Tarxien. The altars are richly decorated with spirals on the font and sides. All the spirals although similar are different. In the back of this apse are other decorated megaliths, two of which have animal relief, which are now kept at the National Museum of Archaeology, in Valletta. You can see photos of these slabs hitting the links below.
Another very interesting 'decoration' is to be found on the faces of the upright megaliths forming the side of the 'portal'to the back of the apse. These 'decorations' are a number of ship graffiti of different shapes and sizes. It is not known whether these graffiti were done during the the temple period or when the temple was in ruins and reused as a cremation cemetery by the Bronze Age people. Click on the megalith to see the graffiti.
