The hole seen to the right of the 'fertility shrine' is the so called 'oracle hole' of Hagar Qim. As clearly seen in this photograph, the opening of the hole is framed by other stones in the foreground, which form a kind of cubicle in front of it.
It has been theorised that this oracle hole permitted interaction between the 'ordinary worshipper' on the outside and 'priestesses or priests' on the inside. Similar holes are found in Tarxien and Mnajdra Temples.
