Storia del comune
Sulla riva dell'Adda - con i suoi antichi nuclei di Colnago, Cornate e
Porto d'Adda unificati nel 1870 - Cornate si trova a nord di Trezzo in
un ambiente spesso suggestivo e molto verde. Le strette che in questa
zona il fiume attraversa impetuoso costrinsero, per consentire la
navigabilità dal Lago di Como, a costruire fra Cinquecento e Settecento
il naviglio di Paderno. A Colnago è situata la Villa Paradiso,
fabbricata a fine XVI secolo dai Gesuiti. A Porto, all'altezza di un
guado in uso fin dall'età romana, è in esercizio dal 1898 la centrale
idroelettrica Bertini, all'epoca la più potente del genere in Europa,
che portava elettricità a Milano grazie a una linea aerea di 32
chilometri. In località Resega, circa un chilometro più a valle, lavora
dal 1914 in parallelo con la Bertini la centrale idroelettrica Esterle,
edificata in uno stile eclettico che può ricordare quello adottato pochi
anni prima per il rifacimento del Castello Sforzesco a Milano.
Storia dello stemma
Lo stemma del Comune di Cornate d'Adda si ritiene possa derivare, in
gran parte, dallo stemma dell'antica famiglia lombarda dei Vimercati,
che dal 1681 era stata feudataria del feudo di Cornate d'Adda. Lo stemma
di questa famiglia, descritto a pagina 97 del Volume III del Dizionario
storico-blasonico di G.B. di Crollalanza, risulta in effetti molto
simile a quello del Comune. Le due variazioni principali sono
rappresentate dalle due spade incrociate (in araldica due figure "in
croce di S. Andrea" indicano due figure incrociate fra di loro in
diagonale) e dalla bordura d'azzurro, posta nel capo dello scudo (ossia
la lista azzurra aderente al lato superiore dello scudo). La bordura
azzurra si dice "cucita" al campo di rosso, in quanto, essendo vietato,
in araldica, sovrapporre un colore (l'azzurro della bordura) a un altro
colore (il rosso del campo) - in quanto il colore sovrapposto male
aderirebbe al colore sottostante - l'unico sistema per fare aderire la
figura azzurra al campo di rosso è quello di cucire materialmente la
figura sopra il campo. |

History of town
On the Adda' shore - with its ancient cores of Colnago, Cornate and
Porto d'Adda unified in 1870 - Cornate is located north of Trezzo in a
charming and often very green habitat. Narrow in this area that the

History of Crest
The emblem of the City of Cornate d'Adda is deemed to arise in large
part by the emblem of the family of lombarda Vimercati, which since 1681
had been the fiefdom of feudal lords Cornate d'Adda. The emblem of this
family, described on page 97 of Volume III of the Historical Dictionary
of blazons-GB of Crollalanza, is actually quite similar to that of the
municipality. The two main changes are represented by the two crossed
swords (both figures in heraldry "in the cross of St. Andrew" indicate
two figures cross one another in diagonal) and the blue border, located
in the head in the shield (ie the blue list adherent to the top of the
shield). The blue border is "stitched" to the field of red, as being
prohibited, in heraldry, an overlay color (the blue of the border) to
another color (the red area) - as the color superimposed evil join color
below - the only way to join the figure in the blue field of red is to
sew the material above the figure.
